ABDO iBooks are interactive CDs designed for easy and fun read-along practice for young readers. Each CD perfectly matches the picture book or graphic novel it's based on, and requires no Internet access to get started. ABDO iBooks are PC or Mac compatible, and include a multiple choice quiz at the end for comprehension practice. Each book/CD also has an Accelerated Reader quiz available.
Other features include:- Each ABDO iBook starts with "Let Me Read on My Own" or "Read to Me" choices, so the readers can be "read to" or practice reading the text on their own.
- Each iBook has easy click access throughout, so the reader can get to back matter, a fun facts list, the customized review quiz, glossary or index pages, and more.
- For graphic iBooks, the panels light up in the proper order and the text bubbles are enlarged as the narrator or character reads the text. This makes for easy read-along practice.
- For picture iBooks, each word or sentence is highlighted as it's read for simple practice. Glossary words appear in a different color, and can be clicked on for leveled definitions that are read aloud.
- Entertaining action and sound effects add drama and fun. For example, when readers learn that ducklings poke around the pond looking for bugs to eat, the ducklings on the page start to eat the bugs! Readers will hear birds chirp in the background for a farm book, the sound of fire and wolves for White Fang, and more.
NEW from ABDO - Site Licensed iBooks
In addition to the single license versions that you can purchase of the ABDO iBooks, Perma-Bound now offers you the same titles in a special site license version. Purchasing the site license version means that you can load the iBook on your school's server or multiple computers inside your building so that multiple users can all access and use that single copy. Further details about the new site license versions are shown below.
- No annual subscription! Once the Site License has been purchased, the Interactive Book belongs to the school.
- Each ABDO iBook can be purchased as a site license at the low cost of $39.95
- Both the single copy and site license copy have different ISBNs making them easier to enter and track in circulation systems
- ABDO iBooks are considered software and were just approved by Smart Board Technologies (Interactive White Boards commonly used in classrooms)
- ABDO Interactive Books have also been recommended to be used for Title 1
- ARRA stimulus money can be used for software purchases such as these Interactive Books
