Research
We are approaching summer vacation with thoughts of recreation and leisure on our minds. We can inspire students to read during the summer by providing them with great books, lists of books that will activate their interest, and reminding them the Public Library can be a source of summertime adventure!
Linda B. Gambrell, President of IRA (International Reading Association), explains the research behind the summer reading gap and things that an individual classroom teacher can do to encourage summer reading during the last month of school, in her article Closing the Summer Reading Gap: You Can Make A Difference www.reading.org/General/Publications/ReadingToday/RTY-0804-summer.aspx.
Perma-Bound has selected the booklists shown above to support and entice continued learning throughout your student's summer vacation.
