Research
This EXTREME edition of Club Read includes stories of fascinating adventure and survival written in the first person active voice. You will find fiction and nonfiction books written with action words, engaging imagery, and personalized dramatic details. All titles include story elements with goal-directed activities and human interest factors. These literary characteristics contribute to the readers' interest in literature and create positive learning outcomes such as greater comprehension, text recall, and attention to the story.
Research has clearly demonstrated that keen interest has a powerful and facilitative effect on cognitive functioning (Hidi and Harackeiwicz, 2000). If a book holds the interest of a reader it produces a positive feeling about the book topic and the process of retaining information from reading, and in turn, will generate more interest in reading as an activity.
