ALA/YALSA Fiction Great Graphic Novels For Teens 2009
Graphic Novels are a powerful support of visual literacy using words and images to
provide a non-traditional bridge to conventional texts. These valuable learning tools
"hook" readers, drawing them into the story by engaging 21st century skills such as
vocabulary-building, making inferences, and drawing conclusions. Literacy experts
agree that the ability to extract meaning from a printed page is more important
than simply reading words.
Graphic Novels combine recreational reading and curriculum support in a way that makes sense for students in our visual culture!
Sets and books with a Grade Level of 9+ and some 7-12 may have more mature content throughout the book. Please use discretion when selecting titles for your school.
